Scott Eakin
I like to know how things fit together; I like complexity. I think William Occam was wrong; the simplest answer is not always the best. Complexities, fullness, infinitude, vastness are more often the answer for me.
I make paintings that are filled with complications. Accumulating individual elements coalesce into a complete image. Drawings or schematics of geometric forms begin a work. They help me clarify tension and movement within the painting. Smaller elements I call tools and ladders are used to organize or disrupt space. Once the composition is settled, color becomes the main focus. Each block is individually painted. The interaction of color at the edges brings the drawing to life. It is a process driven by both intention and intuition.
Beauty takes many forms.
